Faith, law and democracy

The Economist provides a good, balanced description of some of the issues raised by religious practice, and especially that of Islam, in a secular state. Fortunately for the United States there is a First Amendment, and even though there is controversy about aspects of its interpretation there are also wide areas of agreement.
