Anthony Esolen offers his list of "The Top Fifty Christian Movies" which he defines as not meaning "that the movie is explicitly religious, but rather that a Christian view of the world informs the whole."
Lists are made to be argued about. I've seen almost all of the films on this list and, even if I can't always discern what is "Christian" about one or another of his choices, it is a list of very good older movies.
Here are a few good ones that you may have missed:
6. How Green Was My Valley
9. You Can't Take It with You
24. Tender Mercies
25. The Trip to Bountiful
26. The Straight Story
38. Sergeant York
41. Witness
44. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Each of these, and all the others, are worth a rainy afternoon. Borrow them from the library, buy them, or put them on your NetFlix list.
The comments after the list add a number of other good movies.
