"Liberals are more likely to get political cues in church than conservatives," although "not too many of them can be found in church," notes David Campbell, a Notre Dame political scientist working for the Spiritual Capital Research Program, speaking to Religion Watch. Conservative congregations were far less political than often thought, he said. However surprising it may be to those who never enter a church, that fact will hardly shock conservative Christians. The subject matter that preoccupies them in church is far more important than the political controversies of the moment.
